How to Craft a Chest in Minecraft
To craft a chest in Minecraft you need eight wooden planks. On the Crafting Table, fill the 3×3 grid and leave the middle square empty. Below are the items, the recipe, and where each plank comes from.

Planks and the table
You are going to use eight Wooden Planks — any overworld wood is fine. Break a log, open the inventory, and drop the log in the 2×2 grid: one log becomes four planks, so two logs already make a chest. The Crafting Table comes first: four planks in those same four inventory slots, place it on the ground, and open it. That is the 3×3 grid.
How to assemble it
On the table, fill the top row, the bottom row, and both sides of the middle row. Leave the center empty. The chest shows up on the right; drag it into your inventory and place it on the ground.
Large chest
Want more space? Craft a second chest the same way and put it against the first, on the same floor. They become one chest with 54 slots.
