How to Craft a Barrel in Minecraft
To craft a barrel in Minecraft you need six wooden planks and two wooden slabs. On the Crafting Table put planks on every side square and a slab in the top-middle and bottom-middle, and one barrel comes out. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

Punch logs and convert them in the inventory 2×2. Six matching planks fill the sides. Three planks in a row on the table make six wooden slabs; this recipe uses two. That covers the whole barrel.
Slabs in the middle column
Open the Crafting Table. Top row: plank, wooden slab, plank. Middle: plank, empty, plank. Bottom: plank, wooden slab, plank. One barrel appears on the right; take it. The 2×2 inventory cannot hold this 3×3.
Twenty-seven with a lid
Place it. The barrel opens even with a solid block sitting on top, which a regular chest cannot do. A hopper pulls from it the same way. Fishermen in villages already keep one as a job site. An axe breaks it fastest.
