How to Craft a Compass in Minecraft
To craft a compass in Minecraft you need four iron ingots and one redstone dust. On the Crafting Table drop the dust in the center and put iron above, below, left, and right. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

How to craft these materials
Iron Ingot
1 Raw Iron
Iron IngotFour iron and redstone
Mine iron ore with a stone pickaxe or better and smelt the raw iron in a furnace — four ingots. Redstone ore needs an iron pickaxe; break it in the deepslate layers and pick up the dust. One dust is enough for this craft.
Plus around the dust
Open the Crafting Table. Put redstone dust in the very center square. Place an iron ingot in the top-middle, bottom-middle, middle-left, and middle-right — a plus, corners empty. One compass appears on the right; the 2×2 inventory grid cannot hold this plus.
Follow spawn, or lock a lodestone
Hold it in the Overworld and the needle points toward world spawn. In the Nether or the End it spins. Use the compass on a lodestone if you want it to point at that block instead. Eight paper around this compass is the map recipe if you are mapping next.
