How to craft these materials
Eight paper and a compass
Three sugar cane in a row make three paper, so run that craft a few times until you have eight sheets. The compass is four iron ingots in a plus around one redstone dust on the same table. Mine redstone ore with an iron pickaxe or better; the four ingots come from smelting iron as usual.
Compass in the middle
Open the Crafting Table. Put the compass in the very center square. Fill the other eight squares with paper — the whole ring around it. One empty map appears on the right; take it. The inventory 2×2 is too small for this ring.
Use it where you want the center
Hold the empty map and use it. It locks onto the chunk you are standing in and starts drawing as you walk with it in hand. Activate it at the base or biome you actually want in the middle; that center does not move later. Extra paper on a cartography table zooms the same map out if you need a wider view.
