How to craft these materials
Iron Nugget
Iron Ingot
Iron Nugget ×9Shapeless: the slots can sit anywhere on the grid.
Eight nuggets and a torch
One iron ingot in any crafting grid becomes nine nuggets; you need eight, so one ingot covers the metal. A torch is coal on a stick in the inventory 2×2 — that pair dumps four torches, and you only take one. Charcoal from a smelted log works in the torch if you have not found coal ore yet.
Torch in the center
Open the Crafting Table. Drop the torch in the very middle square, then put an iron nugget in every remaining square. One lantern appears on the right; take it. The 2×2 inventory grid cannot hold this 3×3.
Stand it or hang it
Aim at the top of a solid block to stand the lantern, or at the underside to hang it. It gives off light 15, one step brighter than a torch, so a path or a porch stays lit without lining every block with extra torches.
