How to Craft a Torch in Minecraft
To craft a torch in Minecraft you need one coal and one stick. Stack the coal on top of the stick in the inventory 2×2 — that pair dumps four torches. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

How to craft these materials
Coal on a stick
Punch a log. Two planks stacked make four sticks; take one. Coal ore — the stone with black flecks — drops coal with any pickaxe. A log in a furnace comes out as charcoal, and that works in the same slot as coal.
Stack them in the 2×2
Open the inventory. Put the coal in a square and the stick directly under it. Four torches appear on the right; take them. The same pair works on a Crafting Table if that is already open.
Stick it on the wall
Aim at the top of a solid block to stand the torch, or at the side to hang it. Light 14 keeps a cave path readable and melts nearby snow. Eight iron nuggets around one torch make a lantern.
