How to Craft a Pickaxe in Minecraft
To craft a pickaxe in Minecraft you need three wooden planks and two sticks. On the Crafting Table fill the top row with planks and put the two sticks in a column under the middle plank — a T — and one wooden pickaxe comes out. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

Wooden Planks
Oak LogWooden Planks ×4Shapeless: the slots can sit anywhere on the grid.
Three planks, two sticks
Punch two oak logs and convert them in the inventory 2×2: each log is four planks. You need three for the head. Two planks stacked make four sticks; take two for the handle. That covers the whole craft.
A T on the table
Open the Crafting Table. Fill the entire top row with planks. Drop one stick in the very center and the other in the bottom-middle square. One wooden pickaxe appears on the right; take it. The 2×2 inventory cannot hold this shape.
Mine stone, then coal
Equip it and hold on stone: the block drops cobblestone. Coal ore — the stone with black flecks — drops coal too. Wooden pickaxes do not stack. The cobble you just mined is the next head on the same T.
