How to Craft a Lead in Minecraft
To craft a lead in Minecraft you need five string. On the Crafting Table that pattern dumps two leads at once. Below are the items, the recipe, and where the string comes from.

Five string
Kill spiders or cave spiders at night — each can drop up to two string. Mineshaft cobwebs also pay string if you break them with a sword. Five pieces cover one craft. Cats and striders drop string too if you already have those around.
How to assemble it
Open the Crafting Table. Put string in the left and center squares of the top row, then the same two squares of the middle row. Drop the fifth string in the bottom-right corner. Two leads appear on the right; take both.
Walk a mob or tie a fence
Use the lead on a cow, horse, wolf or most other passive mobs, then walk. Use it on a fence post to park them. If you stretch past about twelve blocks the lead snaps and drops next to the mob, so slow down on jumps.
