How to Craft an Observer in Minecraft
To craft an observer in Minecraft you need six cobblestone, two redstone dust, and one nether quartz. On the Crafting Table put cobble on the top and bottom rows, then two dust and the quartz across the middle, and one observer comes out. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

Six cobble, two dust, one quartz
Mine six cobblestone with any pickaxe. Mine redstone ore with an iron pickaxe or better for two dust. Nether quartz ore in the Nether drops the quartz that becomes the face. That is the whole observer.
Quartz on the face
Open the Crafting Table. Top: three cobblestone. Middle: redstone, redstone, nether quartz. Bottom: three cobblestone. The quartz sits on the right of the middle row and becomes the face. One observer appears on the right; take it.
Pulse when the face changes
Place it so the quartz face looks at the block you want to watch. When that block updates, the observer sends a redstone pulse out the back, enough to fire a piston or a repeater. A pickaxe breaks it. Observers stack to sixty-four.
