How to Craft a Piston in Minecraft
To craft a piston in Minecraft you need three wooden planks, four cobblestone, one iron ingot and one redstone dust. On the Crafting Table the planks fill the top row, the iron sits in the center with the dust under it, and cobblestone fills the four side squares. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

How to craft these materials
Wooden Planks
Oak Log
Wooden Planks ×4Shapeless: the slots can sit anywhere on the grid.
Iron Ingot
1 Raw Iron
Iron IngotThree planks, four cobble, iron, dust
Punch a log and convert it in the inventory 2×2 — one log already covers the three planks, and any wood type works. Mine stone with a pickaxe for four cobblestone. Iron ore needs a stone pickaxe, then a furnace. Redstone ore is the red-flecked stone deep down; it only drops dust with an iron pickaxe or better. One ingot and one dust close the list.
Planks on top, cobble on the sides
Open the Crafting Table. Fill the whole top row with planks. Put cobblestone in both middle sides and both bottom corners. Drop the iron ingot in the exact center and the redstone dust in the bottom-middle. One piston appears on the right; take it. This shape needs the 3×3 table.
Face it, then power it
Place the piston while looking the way you want the wooden face to shove. A lever, button or redstone dust against it extends the arm one block and pushes what sits in front — up to twelve blocks in a line. Cut the signal and the arm comes back; the pushed block stays. Mine it with a pickaxe to pick it up.
