How to Craft a Fishing Rod in Minecraft
To craft a fishing rod in Minecraft you need three sticks and two string. On the Crafting Table the sticks run bottom-left to top-right and the string fills the two leftover squares on the right. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.
| Item | Qty | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | Put two Wooden Planks in a vertical pair in the inventory grid. One pair makes four sticks. This ingredient is crafted too — station below. | |
| 2 | Kill spiders or cave spiders (0–2). Break cobwebs with a sword. Cats can drop string too. |

How to craft these materials
Three sticks, two string
Two planks stacked in the inventory 2×2 make four sticks; you only need three, so one pair is enough. String comes from spiders or cave spiders at night (up to two each), or from mineshaft cobwebs broken with a sword. Two string close the recipe.
Sticks on a diagonal
Open the Crafting Table. Put a stick in the bottom-left square, one in the center, and one in the top-right. Drop string in the middle-right and bottom-right squares so it hangs off the open side of the diagonal. One fishing rod appears on the right. You can mirror it: sticks running the other way and string on the left column.
Cast into water
Hold the rod, aim at a water block at least one block deep, and use it to throw the bobber. When bubble specks run toward the bobber and it dips, use again to reel. Fish, junk, or treasure lands in the inventory. The same cast can hook a mob and pull it closer if you reel while it is caught.
