How to Craft a Pressure Plate in Minecraft
To craft a pressure plate in Minecraft you need two wooden planks of the same wood. Put them side by side in the inventory 2×2. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those planks come from.

Wooden Planks

Two oak planks
Punch a log and convert it in the inventory 2×2: one log is four planks. Two of the same wood cover the plate. Oak is what the first tree gives in most worlds.
Side by side in the 2×2
Open the inventory. Put one plank next to the other in a row. One oak pressure plate appears on the right; take it. The same pair works on a Crafting Table.
Step, or drop an item
Place it on top of a solid block. Walking onto it powers the block underneath. A dropped item sitting on the wood also holds the signal. Put one in front of a door and the door opens when you step up. Two stone in the same row makes the stone plate.
