How to Craft a Recovery Compass in Minecraft
To craft a recovery compass in Minecraft you need eight echo shards and one compass. On the Crafting Table put the compass in the center and fill every other square with a shard, and one recovery compass comes out. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

How to craft these materials
Eight shards around a compass
Loot chests in an ancient city until eight echo shards drop. A compass is four iron ingots around redstone. Keep that compass for the center.
Compass in the center
Open the Crafting Table. Put the compass in the very center square. Fill the other eight squares with echo shards. One recovery compass appears on the right; take it. This ring needs the 3×3 table.
It points to your last death
Hold it. The needle aims at the spot where you last died, as long as you are in the same dimension. A map still draws the land; this needle only cares about that death. If you have not died yet, the needle spins.
