How to Craft a Sign in Minecraft
To craft a sign in Minecraft you need six matching wooden planks and one stick. On the Crafting Table fill the top two rows with planks and put the stick in the bottom-middle square — oak is the usual first sign — and you get three signs at once. Below are the items, the recipe, and where the planks come from.
Sign ×3| Item | Qty | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | Punch or axe a log, then convert the log to planks in the 2×2 inventory grid. Oak, birch, spruce and the rest all count. This ingredient is crafted too — station below. | |
| 1 | Put two Wooden Planks in a vertical pair in the inventory grid. One pair makes four sticks. This ingredient is crafted too — station below. |

How to craft these materials
Wooden Planks
Oak Log
Wooden Planks ×4Shapeless: the slots can sit anywhere on the grid.
Six oak planks, one stick
Punch or axe an oak log and convert it in the inventory 2×2: one log is four planks. You need six matching planks plus two more for a stick pair, so two logs cover the whole craft. Two planks stacked make four sticks; take one. Keep the six planks the same wood.
Two rows and a post
Open the Crafting Table. Fill the entire top row and the entire middle row with planks. Drop the stick in the bottom-middle square and leave the bottom corners empty. Three oak signs appear on the right; take all three. Signs stack to sixteen.
On the floor or the wall
Place the sign on a solid floor and it stands on a post; place it on the side of a block and it sits flat on the wall. The text screen opens right away — type, then close it. Break the sign with your hand or an axe to pick it back up.
