How to Craft an Axe in Minecraft
To craft an axe in Minecraft you need three wooden planks and two sticks. On the Crafting Table put three planks in an L on the top-left and two sticks down the handle column, and one wooden axe comes out. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

Wooden Planks

Three planks, two sticks
Punch a log and convert it in the inventory 2×2: one log is four planks, and this craft uses three. Two planks stacked make four sticks; take two for the handle. That covers the whole wooden axe.
An L, then the handle
Open the Crafting Table. Two planks in the first two squares of the top row. One more plank under the left one. A stick in the center, the other stick in the bottom-middle. One wooden axe appears on the right; take it.
Logs, then cobblestone
Hold it on a log or a plank and the wood drops fast. Hit a mob with it for a heavier swing than a sword. Wooden axes do not stack. Swap the three planks for cobblestone on the same L when you want the next axe.
