Six iron, one stick

Mine iron ore with a stone pickaxe or better, then smelt six ores in a furnace. Two planks stacked make four sticks; take one. That covers one batch.

Iron on both sides

Open the Crafting Table. Three ingots down the left column, three down the right, the stick in the exact center. Sixteen rails appear on the right; take them. The 2×2 inventory cannot hold this shape.

On a solid block

Place a rail on the top of a solid block. A minecart rolls on the line. Two rails that meet at a corner curve on their own. Mine them with a pickaxe to pick them back up. They stack to sixty-four.
