Four stone from cobble
Mine stone with any pickaxe: the block drops cobblestone. Open a furnace, cobblestone on top, fuel underneath. Each cobble comes out as one stone. Four smelts cover one craft. Silk Touch on the pickaxe drops the stone block itself.
A square in the 2×2
Open your inventory or a Crafting Table. Fill four squares with stone. Four stone bricks appear on the right; take them. The 2×2 is enough.
A wall, a stronghold
Place them as a wall. Mine with a pickaxe to pick them back up. Stronghold corridors are built from this block. One stone in a stonecutter also cuts into one stone brick.
