How to Craft a Target in Minecraft
To craft a target in Minecraft you need one hay bale and four redstone dust. On the Crafting Table put the hay in the center and redstone above, below, left, and right of it, and one target comes out. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

Nine wheat, then four dust
Harvest wheat until you have nine. Fill every square of the Crafting Table with wheat; one hay bale comes out. Mine redstone ore with an iron pickaxe and keep four dust.
Hay in the center of a plus
Open the Crafting Table. Hay bale in the very center. Redstone in the top-middle, bottom-middle, middle-left, and middle-right. Leave the four corners empty. One target appears on the right; take it. This plus needs the 3×3 table.
A pulse when something hits
Place it. An arrow, a trident, or a shot from a dispenser powers the target and the block under it. A hit closer to the bullseye sends a stronger pulse. A hoe is not required; any tool breaks it and the target drops.
