How to Craft Terracotta in Minecraft
To craft terracotta in Minecraft you need one clay block and a furnace. Put the clay in the top slot, fuel underneath, and one terracotta comes out on the right. Below are the items, the recipe, and where that clay comes from.

Clay

Dig clay with a shovel in shallow water, a swamp, or a lush cave. A normal shovel drops four clay balls; put those four in a 2×2 square in the inventory and the clay block comes back. Silk Touch on the shovel picks the block up whole. A single ball in the furnace becomes a brick; this smelt wants the full block.
Clay in the furnace
Open a furnace. Clay block in the top slot, fuel underneath. Coal, charcoal, or a wooden log all work. When the arrow fills, one terracotta sits on the right; take it. A full stack is sixty-four smelts.
A hard orange wall
Place it. A pickaxe breaks the block and it drops. Eight terracotta around a dye on the Crafting Table stain a whole batch. Badlands already spawn terracotta if you would rather mine it than smelt.
