Sand from desert and beach

Dig sand with a shovel in a desert, on a beach, or in river shallows. Red sand from the badlands works the same and still comes out as clear glass. One block of sand is one glass.

Sand in the furnace

Open a furnace. Sand in the top slot, fuel underneath — coal, charcoal or a wooden log all work. When the arrow fills, one glass sits on the right; take it. A full stack is sixty-four smelts.

Windows that shatter

Place the glass as a window; light passes through. Break it without Silk Touch and it drops nothing — smelt another sand. A librarian villager can sell four glass for one emerald if you would rather trade.
