How to Craft Packed Ice in Minecraft

Nine ice
Mine ice in frozen oceans and icy peaks with a Silk Touch pickaxe. Without Silk Touch the block drops nothing. Nine ice cover one craft. Packed ice also generates in icebergs and igloos if you would rather mine it with Silk Touch.
Fill the 3×3
Open the Crafting Table. Put ice in all nine squares; the shape is just a full grid. One packed ice appears on the right; take it. The inventory 2×2 cannot hold nine ice.
Ice that does not melt
Place it. Packed ice stays solid next to torches and in warm biomes. A boat on packed ice is faster than on water. Nine packed ice in the same full grid make blue ice, which is faster still. A pickaxe with Silk Touch picks packed ice back up.
