How to Craft a Smithing Table in Minecraft
To craft a smithing table in Minecraft you need two iron ingots and four wooden planks. On the Crafting Table put iron across the top of two columns and planks in the two rows under them, and one table comes out. Below are the items, the recipe, and where those pieces come from.

Two iron, four planks
Mine iron ore with a stone pickaxe and smelt two ingots in a furnace. Punch logs and convert them in the inventory 2×2. Four matching planks fill the lower two rows. Oak works if that is the wood you already have.
Iron on top of planks
Open the Crafting Table. Top: two iron in the left and middle squares. Middle: two planks under that iron. Bottom: two planks. Leave the right column empty. One smithing table appears on the right; take it. The 2×2 inventory cannot hold this 3-high shape.
Template, piece, material
Place it. A smithing template goes in the first slot, the gear in the second, and the material in the third. That is how diamond gear becomes netherite, and how armor trims sit on a chestplate. An anvil still handles names and repairs. A fletching table uses the same wood shape with flint on top instead of iron.
